The Spirit of a Ruyton Girl
Year 9/10 Electives
- Electives are one Semester in length
- There are two Elective Blocks of 8 periods per cycle in each Semester.
- Electives will be either 8 periods per cycle in length or 4 periods per cycle in length, with the exception of Year 10 Unit 1/2 VCE Subjects, which will maintain 9 lessons per cycle.
- In each elective block, a student may study one 8 period per cycle elective OR two 4 period per cycle electives.
In Year 9 and in Year 10
- Students may choose up to four 8 periods per cycle (ppc) electives and up to six 4 periods per cycle electives over the two years.
- VCE electives may only be chosen by students who will be in Year 10. VCE subjects count as 2 electives (1 per semester).
- In addition to the compulsory History subject (one semester per year), students must enrol in at least three 8 periods per cycle electives, or one 8 periods per cycle elective and one Unit 1/2 subject, across year 9 and 10
- The remaining electives may be chosen from the complete list of electives and should contain at least one elective from each strand (Creativity, Enterprise, Discovery, and Global Issues) across the two years.
- Students choosing electives for Year 10 are required to choose electives that they did not study in Year 9.
- The viability of any subject will be determined by the number of students choosing it.
- Students will be notified about which confirmed electives they will be studying as soon as possible.
- Any requests for subsequent changes in chosen electives will require a letter from parents.

- Electives with 4 ppc are electives with a time allocation of 4 periods per cycle
- Year VCE Unit 1&2 Electives are 9 periods per cycle. All other electives are 8 periods per cycle

Elective Blocks 2019
In each block students will study one 8 period elective OR two 4 period electives.
Remember
- All electives in Block 1/3 will run at the same time. All electives in Block 2/4 will run at the same time.
- The 4 period electives are divided in to Block 1A/3A and Block 1B/3B. Electives in block 1A all run at the same time, electives in Block 1B all run at the same time, etc.
- not all electives will run in both semesters- it just depends on how many students select each of the electives.
- Block 1 and 3 are the same list (Semester 1 elective 1 and Semester 2 elective 1) as are Block 2 and 4, so even if two electives are in the same block you may be able to study both if one runs in Semester 1 and the other runs in Semester 2
