Scholarships

A Ruyton Scholarship will provide your daughter with the opportunity to achieve her personal best academically, to participate in a broad range of co-curricular experiences. She will be a member of a community where girls are prepared for a lifetime of learning, leadership and engagement in our global community.

Applications for 2024 Scholarships are now open and will close on Friday 10 February 2023

Ruyton is pleased to offer a number of Academic, Music and General Excellence Scholarships for entry into Years 5, 7, 9 and 10 in 2024.

Academic Excellence

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of proven outstanding academic achievement and is subject to the student maintaining a high level of academic achievement.

  • Open to existing students entering Years 5 and 7.
  • Open to new students entering Years 5, 7, 9 and 10.
  • Applicants must demonstrate strong academic ability.
  • Academic scholarships may only be awarded to students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.
  • Scholarships to be awarded based on the application, the result of the Academic Scholarship Exam and an interview.
  • All applicants must sit for the Academic Scholarship Exam on Saturday 18 February 2023.

General Excellence

Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic proficiency as well as the excellence in one or more of the following areas: Sport, The Arts (Music, Performance or Visual Art, Leadership and Community Service.

  • Open to existing students entering Year 7
  • Open to new students entering Years 7, 9 and 10.
  • General Excellence scholarships may only be awarded to students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.
  • Scholarships are awarded based on an application, the result of the Academic Scholarship Exam and an interview.
  • All applicants must sit for the Academic Scholarship Exam on Saturday 18 February 2023.
  • At the time of online registration all applicants must upload the following additional documents:
  1. Covering letter and personal resume (outlining the student’s achievements).
  2. A copy of the most recent school report and NAPLAN result.
  3. Letter from your child's current coach or teacher for Sport or The Arts, or the current Principal for Community service in support of their application.
  • Excellence in Sport applicants must also provide evidence of Teams or events they have participated in as part of their portfolio.
  • Excellence in The Arts shortlisted applicants may also be required to audition.

Music Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to string and wind players entering Years 5 and 7 in 2024.

  • Open to both existing and new students entering Years 5 and 7 in 2024.
  • AMEB exams must have been undertaken and applicants must be able to demonstrate their ability to play at the required standard at the audition. Minimum AMEB standards are shown below:

Strings

AMEB Grade 4 (Double Bass Grade 2) level for entry into Year 5

AMEB Grade 6 (Double Bass Grade 4) level for entry into Year 7

Brass

AMEB Grade 2 level for entry into Year 5

AMEB Grade 3 level for entry into Year 7

Woodwind

AMEB Grade 3 level for entry into Year 5

AMEB Grade 5 level for entry into Year 7

  • To be eligible for a Music Scholarship applicants must sit the Academic Scholarship exam on Saturday 18 February 2023 and have completed an AMEB examination.
  • At the time of online registration all applicants must upload the following additional documents:
  • Students who receive a scholarship will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to:
    1.  The performing ensembles at Ruyton as required by the Director of Music
    2.  Perform as soloist as required by the Director of Music at assemblies, recital, concerts and soirees
    3.  Continued improvement on auditioned instrument by taking individual private music tuition within the Ruyton Instrumental Music Programme
    4.  The completion of AMEB Music Exams on an annual basis.
  • The recipients of scholarships will be required to undertake lessons within the School’s instrumental programme.
  • The music staff at Ruyton comprises outstanding teachers and performers giving all music students a wonderful opportunity for success.
  • An accompanist is not necessary but is advisable for the audition.
  • A short interview/discussion will take place after the audition.
  • Please bring to the audition:
    1.  Two contrasting works for performance
    2.  Prepared technical work
  • On receipt of your application, you will be contacted by the Music Department regarding an audition time.
  • Auditions for Music Scholarship candidates will be held during the week of Monday 6 February to Friday 10 February 2023 and your daughter must be available to audition during this time.
