Recognising talent, supporting potential
Ruyton offers a limited number of Excellence and Founders' Scholarships each year. Excellence Scholarships recognise outstanding ability and achievement across a range of disciplines. Founders' Scholarships are means tested, opening a Ruyton education to families who would benefit from financial support. Families are welcome to apply for one, or both.

Key Entry Points
Scholarships are offered at three principal entry points.
Applications from students entering other year levels are welcome and considered on a case by case basis. Please contact our Admissions team to discuss your daughter's circumstances.
Scholarship Types
- Demonstrated academic excellence in science, mathematics or related disciplines
- Participation in STEM competitions, clubs or extension programs
- Evidence of innovative thinking or problem solving
- Research projects, coding experience or engagement in scientific inquiry
- Active involvement in local, school or global community initiatives
- Commitment to social justice, equity or environmental causes
- Leadership roles in service based activities or not for profit organisations
- References that highlight empathy, responsibility and initiative
- Evidence of entrepreneurial projects, initiatives or business involvement
- Participation in enterprise programs, pitch competitions or innovation fairs
- Creative problem solving and initiative in launching new ideas
- Resilience and motivation through personal or academic challenges
- Leadership roles within school, sporting teams, clubs or community groups
- Ability to inspire, support and guide others toward shared goals
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Recognition through leadership awards or programs
- High level of proficiency in one or more instruments, including voice
- AMEB or equivalent examination results, where applicable
- Participation in bands, orchestras, ensembles or solo performance
- Achievements in music competitions, festivals or eisteddfods
Voice applicants
Students applying with a vocal focus should demonstrate comparable achievement in voice studies, though AMEB grading is not required. Evidence may include solo performance, choir participation, vocal competitions or musical theatre experience.
AMEB grade expectations by year level
- Brass & woodwind — Years 7–8: Grade 4–5, Years 9–10: Grade 5–6, Years 11–12: Grade 7+
- Strings — Years 7–8: Grade 6–7, Years 9–10: Grade 7–8, Years 11–12: Grade 8+
- Percussion / drum kit — Years 7–8: Grade 4–6, Years 9–10: Grade 5–6, Years 11–12: Grade 7–8
- Piano — Years 7–8: Grade 6–7, Years 9–10: Grade 7–8, Years 11–12: Grade 8+
- Participation in drama, theatre or dance inside or outside school
- Demonstrated skill in acting, directing, choreography or stagecraft
- Recognition in local, state or national performing arts events
- Willingness to contribute to Ruyton's performing arts programs
- Excellence in one or more sporting disciplines at school, club, state or national level
- Commitment to training, teamwork and sportsmanship
- Representation in competitive teams or sports leadership roles
- Achievements in regional, state or national competition
- Strong portfolio across various mediums, such as drawing, painting, sculpture or digital
- Recognition through competitions, exhibitions or showcases
- Creative expression and technical ability in submitted work
- Passion and commitment to developing visual art skills over time
Application Process
Part 1: Complete the online scholarship application. This is the first part of the application and allows you to upload relevant details about your daughter's areas of endeavour and excellence. This also provides for a personal statement from your daughter explaining why she wishes to be considered for a Ruyton Scholarship.
Part 2: After submitting Part 1, families must register their daughter for the academic assessment examination. Although payment has already been made, registration is still required to secure ensure a test place is reserved.
Important: All students are required to sit the examination and registration for the examination is required to ensure a test paper is prepared. We regret that incomplete applications are ineligible for scholarship consideration.
