Powerful Parenting - Navigating the Teenage Years: Building connection through effective communication
Tuesday 2 June, 6pm-7.30pm
This session will be led by Kate Kelly, Deputy Principal – Senior School, who holds a Masters in Youth Mental Health and has completed the Tuning into Teens emotion coaching program.
Together, we will explore emotion coaching strategies specifically tailored to the developmental needs of teenagers, helping parents and carers strengthen connection, improve communication and navigate challenging moments with greater confidence and understanding. The session will consider how we can respond with greater empathy and acceptance, while also managing our own feelings of frustration or hurt when our daughters naturally push away or seek greater independence as they move towards adulthood.
Designed to be both reassuring and highly practical, this session will provide parents and carers with strategies and language they can begin using immediately at home to encourage more open communication, stronger relationships and more positive day-to-day interactions with their daughters.
Time permitting, we will also explore adolescent sleep health, including practical ways families can support healthy sleep habits and routines during these important developmental years.
This session is suitable for parents and carers of students in Years 6–12.
