Powerful Parenting Program - Academic Buoyancy 2026
Powerful Parenting: Academic Buoyancy
Wednesday 18 March 6.30pm , RSVP by Monday 16 March
Our Academic Buoyancy program takes place in Years 7-9 through a powerful collaboration between our Heads of Year, Heads of Faculty, Mentors and classroom teachers. Researchers Dr Andrew Martin and Rebecca Collie from the University of NSW identify Academic Buoyancy as one of the relatively few areas whereby gender differences at school do not favour girls. Girls typically demonstrate higher motivation and engagement than boys, yet academic setback, adversity, and challenges register more and linger longer for girls.
Research indicates that the explicit teaching of the Academic Buoyancy Cycle is an effective strategy to support and empower girls in successfully managing academic adversity.
We invite parents and carers of current Year 7, 8 and 9 students to join us in this collaboration at our upcoming Powerful Parenting Event. We will share an overview of our research findings and the principles and strategies which underpin academic buoyancy, enabling us to use a common language and tools when supporting our girls to manage academic anxiety.
