Student Forum with Lisa Sthalekar

'You can’t be what you can’t see’

Students in Years 10 to 12 were invited to hear a lunchtime presentation from cricket commentator and former Captain of the Australian Women’s Cricket team, Lisa Sthalekar. Although there were undoubtedly some cricket fanatics in the audience, Lisa’s message extended beyond the cricket pitch. She stressed that it is important for female athletes to be given media coverage to promote the growth of women’s sport. The famous quote ‘You can’t be what you can’t see’ was most appropriate in this session, as the girls were able to hear from a woman who has, in her background of adoption and migration to Australia, worked hard to make her dreams a reality. Lisa talked about the benefits of teamwork, developing respect for each other and the importance of having friends who are a positive influence and support each other. There is no doubt that Lisa’s will, passion and fire have been instrumental in her success as a cricketer and that her skills have been successfully transferable into a corporate environment.

The senior girls finished the forum with some thought-provoking questions for our guest. Thank you to Debating and Forums Captain, Angelyn N, who organised this fabulous opportunity for our Years 10 to 12 girls.
