Drama in Times of Change

Drama in Times of Change

Students in the Year 9 and 10 Page to Stage Drama elective class worked creatively throughout Semester 1 in both face to face and distance learning to devise a meaningful representation of Bradley Hayward’s Selfie. A heartwarming and enlightening play, Selfie explores the lives of teenagers growing up in the age of social media and in which the characters ‘come to realise that life is not about what other people see – it's about the pictures they have of themselves.’

Students took on various production roles of particular interest to them, including directing, acting and/or aspects of design in makeup, costume, lighting, sound, publicity and set. Each student rehearsed the play on MS Teams and in face to face lessons and created a folio of work that explored and showcased their ideas. The semester culminated in a performance of Selfie in its entirety in which Zoe B, Juliet B, Miranda B, Harper E, Ella J, Jemima M, Mia M and Harriet M took on character roles and Madeline F took on the role of lighting and sound operator. These girls are to be congratulated for their ability to pull together such an impressive and compelling piece of theatre in challenging circumstances.
