Last term, a unique gathering took place with Year 3 girls and their fathers experiencing the wonders of Karuya Kai Karate. Karuya Kai is underpinned by strong values of respect, strength and self-discipline. Natsuko Mineghishi, 2012 SKIF World Champion in Kata and Yakusoku Kumite, 4th Dan Black Belt in Shotokan Karate and soprano singer, is a great role model for the girls and approaches her classes with a healthy sense of good humour and fun.
The girls and fathers who attended all enjoyed an active warmup, dusting off the Dojo, before launching into a series of martial arts exercises; agreeable for some and improbable for others. The girls learnt some basic techniques and the fathers took a little bit of a bruising, but with lots of laughter along the way.
