The Hon Justice Kate McMillan

Back to the team

In March 2012 the Attorney-General, Mr Robert Clark, announced the appointment of Kate McMillan SC as a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria. Kate was admitted to practice in 1976 and has over 35 years of legal experience. When she was at the Bar, she specialised in commercial and property law, equity and trusts, professional negligence, and trade practices and ethics. She was also a Victorian Bar representative on the Council of Legal Education and a deputy member of the Board of Examiners. She was Chairman of the Bar in 2005-6 and was Chair of the Bar Ethics Committee for four years, having been a member of the committee for nine years. To members of the Ruyton Community it is no surprise that Kate has been so successful. At School she was a Vice Captain, Athletics Captain and a Boarding House Prefect. She displayed all those qualities of confidence resilience and resourcefulness that we seek to inspire in a Ruyton girl. Kate is certainly an example to our current girls to continue to strive for their personal best and we look forward to watching her continued success.
