Ms Eleanor Denise Robin (Nicol ’60) received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the protection of the environment and conservation of Indigenous and cultural heritage. For many decades Eleanor has been a consultant, public servant and volunteer in the protection and conservation of Australia's natural, Indigenous and cultural heritage. She has worked in the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, with Heritage Tasmania, the Australian Heritage Commission, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation, and has been a Ministerial Appointee to several environmental committees. Since retiring, she has obtained a doctorate in History from the University of Tasmania and has written a biography on the subject of the study, Captain Charles Swanston, Van Diemen’s Land capitalist, merchant statesman and one of the founders of Melbourne. ‘Ruyton was not my last school because my father transferred to Canberra and I finished school there. However, it was Ruyton that provided a sound grounding in the basics, especially in English and, in my formative years, the confidence to try my best, look out for others, and to stand up for what I believed in. My passion for music, developed as a member of the Ruyton Choir, has been a great joy and solace throughout my life.’
