Congratulations to the Class of 2020

Congratulations to the Class of 2020

When the Class of 2020 determined they would lead this year with Radiance and Unity we had no idea of the challenge and uncertainty a pandemic would unleash on our world. Throughout this turbulent year these young women have shown grit and endeavour, giving their best and supporting each other through the ups, downs and continuous change. They have learnt to become comfortable with being uncomfortable and have come to understand their own strengths, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Most importantly they have been other oriented, with their compassion and care for others highly evident in their leadership of our student body and appreciated by all.

In a year that challenged everyone to learn how to cope with adversity, the Class of 2020 let go of expected events, celebrations and trajectories, accepted the setbacks of 2020 and found the positives in a difficult situation. They now look forward to the future armed with the wisdom of their lived experience, a renewed sense of purpose and their compassion recharged. We are enormously proud of each and every one of these young women and what they have achieved for themselves and for others, both individually and collectively.

Today we share and celebrate a snapshot of the Class of 2020 VCE results with the Ruyton community. Statistics can never reflect the rich and personal stories of determination and courage that characterised each girl’s journey in 2020. But we know that their hard work and dedication to achieve their personal best has been a constant this year. We also acknowledge the strong support of parents, guardians and family and the commitment and expertise of our staff throughout their years of schooling, particularly during this challenging year.

Snapshot of the 2020 results:

  • All students achieved their VCE
  • 17% achieved ATARs of 99 and above
  • 41% achieved ATARs of 95 and above
  • 56% achieved ATARs of 90 and above
  • 82% achieved ATARs of 80 and above
  • The median ATAR was 92.6
  • Our girls achieved scores of 50 in Biology, Product Design & Technology, English, Geography, Health & Human Development, and Further Mathematics.

Congratulations to Maya Wilmshurst, the Dux of Ruyton Girls’ School for 2020, with an ATAR of 99.95.

At Ruyton we realise that a single grade, mark, medal or score never fully defines our success as a human being. We believe that every young woman has the potential to make her mark on the world; to raise her voice and take action, to be bold, and to live a life of impact and purpose. It is our girls’ endeavour, morals, compassion and actions that we will always admire. As women of character and integrity only they have the power to define themselves and their success.

We look forward to following the continuing stories of the Class of 2020 as they make their mark on the world. We wish them well and thank them for their outstanding contribution to Ruyton Girls’ School over many years. Radiance and Unity will always be the golden lining that bound the Ruyton community together in 2020. The Class of 2020 will long be remembered for their compassionate leadership along with their humility, resilience and fortitude.
