Year 11 Northern Territory Adventure

Year 11 Northern Territory Adventure

It is a privilege to have spent time in this special place, which has been the home of the first Australians for millennia.

During the July holidays a group of Year 11 girls, Miss Hudson and I travelled to the Northern Territory. The highlight our trip was a six-day bushwalk on the south escarpment of Kakadu National Park.

Walking in Kakadu is a special experience. It is all off-track and navigation relies on map and compass. The Top End dry season is warm in the afternoon and cools at night, leading to early starts and early finishes. Afternoons are spent enjoying the rewards of the hard work done in the morning with swimming, long lunches and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Kakadu is World Heritage listed for its cultural and natural significance. It is a privilege to have spent time in this special place, which has been the home of the first Australians for millennia. Being self-sufficient, living simply and disconnecting from the digital world all combine to enhance this unique adventure.

I congratulate all of the girls on their positive approach and ‘can do’ attitudes, making this adventure a memorable experience for all.
