As part of the South House Programme, Ruyton Year 4 students learn in a unique environment that develops independent learning through inquiry based experiences.
Science Week 2019 provided the girls with an exciting experiment, where they learnt about and extracted DNA from strawberries. DNA Scientist (and Ruyton parent), Karina Muharam led the girls through the investigation.
Learning some astounding facts, the girls applied scientific methods, using common kitchen ingredients to create a cell lysis buffer solution to extract and isolate the DNA.
The experience provided the girls with a practical application of science investigation and familarised them with some technical language around the scientific processes.
