Book Week at Ruyton

Book Week at Ruyton

Last week at Ruyton we celebrated another fantastic Book Week. Included in our festivities were competitions, book character parades, author visits and student-created art work. We thank the many parents, grandparents and special friends who tested their literary knowledge by entering this year’s family Book Week quiz.

During the week, students were entertained and informed by our visiting authors, including Ms Susannah McFarlane, Ms Isobelle Carmody, Mr Michael Sedunary and illustrator Ms Bern Emmerichs. Thank you to Mrs Alexandra Yatomi-Clarke for organising Mr Michael Sedunary and Ms Bern Emmerich to visit the School. Lit Club students were thrilled to have some time to chat one-to-one with authors over lunch. Likewise, our Junior School students enjoyed lunchtime craft and quiz activities.

Our Library displays captured the whimsical nature of the Book Week theme with a range of book characters `escaping to everywhere.’ The Library entrance was certainly brightened by the patchwork Book Week banner created by last year’s Year 5 and Year 6 students. We have also run a range of reading challenges during the year, encouraging our students to read widely and experience other cultures and places through literature. Click here to see our reading lists, including Read Around the World lists.

This year’s Children’s Book Council (CBC) winning titles are as follows:

Older Readers - One Would Think the Deep by Claire Zorn
Younger Readers - Rockhopping by Trace Balla
Early Childhood - Go Home, Cheeky Animals! by Johanna Bell (illustrated by Dion Beasley)
Picture Book - Home in the Rain by Bob Graham
Eve Pownall (Information book) - Amazing Animals of Australia’s National Parks by Gina M Newton
