3The bus left early for Geelong on Saturday 26 November with 11 very excited swimmers on board. It was a cloudy start to the day but by lunchtime the sun was peeping out. There were some good performances with over 20 PB’s recorded 4 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals won and 2 state qualifying times achieved. The announcer did have some trouble pronouncing our name but with help from the swimmers he had it in the end! As always McDonalds was a hit on the way home. I would like to say how well the children handled themselves. A credit to Ruyton Aquatic!

Mia and Rachel both clocked seasonal personal best times in their 50 freestyles. Our first ever 14 and under freestyle relay team handled the pressure well taking 2.19 seconds off their entry time to finish third Victorian team and eighteenth overall. The team consisted of Mia, Rachel, Brooke and Vanessa.

It was an absolutely beautiful day at Monash Aquatic Centre for this years Metro East District Championships. The new Ruyton Aquatic Banner was flying and so were the swimmers in the pool. This year the district graded the relays on times and all members of our seven relays won medals.

After winning A grade medals in their respective age groups, Jemma and Abi have been selected to represent Metro East in Canberra in June.

Dasha and Rachel also won A grade medals in non selection events.

Congratulations to Charlotte B and Riley who competed in their first 100m events.

2016 Victorian Sprint Championships

9Congratulations to all sixteen sprint competitors. Over the course of the championship twenty two personal best time were recorded which is quite amazing considering some of the times were only achieved a few weeks earlier. Mia, Rachel, Sejune and Abi qualified top 10 in the state and competed in the finals. Rachel had the best meet of her swimming career winning her first state medal. She finished third in the 50m freestyle in a time of 28.50. Results were as follows;

2016 Victorian Open and Multi Class Championships

10The weather didn't favor the Open Championships with day one heats being delayed an hour due to thunderstorms. Once the storms passed though India and Mia were ready to race. There was some fierce competition in the multi class events with swimmers from interstate and overseas. Over the three days India raced eight individual events and made five finals. She had an incredibly successful meet beating some of her own long standing personal best times. It was Mia's first meet since her knee surgery. She swam a very fast 50 freestyle which was just .04 off her national time. It was exciting to see Mia racing again.
