Year 6 Mad About Science

‘For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.’ Sir Isaac Newton

‘For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.’ Sir Isaac Newton

That is just one of the many things our Year 6 girls enjoyed learning in the Mad About Science show in Junior School earlier this month. Our presenter, Lucie, explained various scientific principles to the girls about air, electricity and fire and performed awesome demonstrations including, tea-bag rockets, balloon rockets and giant smoke vortex rings. The girls learnt that air is invisible, odourless, all around, takes up space, and exerts pressure. Lucie flew toilet paper using Bernoulli’s principle and levitated ping pong and beach balls. Six girls took part in a bag blowing contest using the principles they had learned about air. Super static electricity was demonstrated using a Van der Graff Generator and the girls witnessed fluttering confetti fireworks, and hair-raising demonstrations.
