International Women's Day Assembly

International Women's Day Assembly

‘Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives’ is the 2018 theme for International Women’s Day in Australia. How fitting it is that we were able to hear from Old Ruytonian Ms Jane Sale (‘92), who, after experiencing a range of careers, including importing and working in her family business, has spent most of her adult life in the Kimberleys developing Yougawalla Station and raising her family in the outback. It was with determination and courage that she met the challenges of her life; fire, drought, the temporary collapse of the beef export business and life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a bull. Her message of resilience and fortitude, which helped her assist other rural women facing social isolation was uplifting. I encourage you to read her Central Australian blog http://www.centralstation.net.au/ and to borrow the Ruyton Library copy of her book Central Station – true stories from Australian Cattle Stations.

Thank you to Old Ruytonian and Ruyton Board member, Ms Melanie Higgins (‘92), who attended the Assembly, introducing Ms Sale to the School and providing background into the positive connections made at Ruyton, which have continued long after school days have finished.
