Inaugural International Women’s Day Breakfast at Ruyton

Inaugural International Women’s Day Breakfast at Ruyton

As a girls' school, International Women's Day is an important day for Ruyton to celebrate. The UN theme for International Women's Day this year was Will You #BeBoldForChange? As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations students in Years 9-12 were invited to the inaugural mother/daughter breakfast.

The event was a great success, with over 80 girls and their mothers/significant females hearing an inspirational presentation by Ms Ali Hopper from YGAP. Ali spoke about her personal journey to reduce world poverty by supporting local entrepreneurs who are ‘living boldly for permanent change.’

The audience was also fortunate to hear from Ms Wiwira Njiru, who had arrived direct from Kenya that morning. Wawira founded Food 4 Education, an organisation that works with vulnerable children in the Kenyan public school system. She spoke about the programme, which provides daily lunches to keep children in school, and has drastically improved school attendance and student performance.
