Friends of Ruyton Environmental Sustainability and TravelSmart (FOREST)
FOREST is a group of parent volunteers who support the existing Sustainability Policies within the School. It aims to promote environmental awareness and is an important channel of communication between the School and parents. FOREST incorporates TravelSmart, which is an initiative of the government, aiming to reduce our reliance on cars, and to get us to make better and smarter choices about other forms of transport. The Walking School Bus Programme was established in 2007.

TravelSmart
The TravelSmart Programme is an initiative of the government’s which aims to reduce our reliance on cars, and to get us to make better and smarter choices about other forms of transport. Ruyton has embraced this initiative, and has developed a School Travel Plan which aims to reduce the number of school trips that students take by car, in favour of more environmentally friendly and healthier ways of travelling using public transport, car pooling and walking.
The Ruyton Walking School Buses started in 2007. 'Catching' a Walking School Bus is a great way to get your daughter to walk to School, knowing she is walking safely, taking exercise and socialising with new friends. It may lead towards her walking independently when she is older.
