Inaugural House Cross Country

Ruyton has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in

its Cross Country Team. This prominence led us to

expand the House system last year to include cross

country in the Junior School. Catering to all levels of skill

was paramount, as this is a fundamental component

of the House system here at Ruyton. The House Cross

Country event for both Junior and Senior Schools now

occurs at Macleay Park in Balwyn. This move has been

very positive and embraced by girls and teachers alike,

as well as providing better facilities for spectators. Plans

were in place in 2014 for the inaugural Junior School

House Cross Country event, but we were thwarted, not

once, but twice, by the weather. In April 2015 nothing

was going to prevent the girls from competing!

Conditions were cold, and there were showers, but the

girls showed resilience while competing in the inclement

weather, which was positive to see. It was also lovely to

witness their enthusiasm and encouragement towards

each other. While there were some outstanding

individual results it was the participation rates that were

most impressive, with all girls showing determination to

finish the course as quickly as possible. Anderson House

triumphed on the day and congratulations to all

competitors for displaying fabulous House spirit.

State Swimming

It is difficult to remember a time when Ruyton did

not have a swimming pool! Through the

generosity of the Ruyton community at that time

we were able to construct the pool, opened in

2008, which is now part of the John Bate PE

Centre. Giving the girls early access to the pool –

formal lessons at School begin in Prep – is certainly

paying dividends now, as our swimming team is

growing stronger and stronger. Ruyton swimmers

blitzed the field at the SSV State Swimming

Championships held at MSAC and there were

medal winning performances from Jasmine A,

Charlotte B, Sophie C, Chloe H, Abigail R, Lily S,

Minduli W, Georgia W and Aaliyah W. Well done to

all our talented Ruyton swimmers!
