Power shift 2013was centredon thebelief that it isourgenerationwhowill end society’s
dependencyof fossil fuelsand switchover to renewableenergy sources tocreatea safeclimate
future that ispoweredby 100% renewables.
Power shiftwas trulyanamazingexperience that lefteach individual inspired tofight for justice
and to illustrate toourpoliticians theneed for them toaimhigheronclimatechange, so that the
nextgenerationwill havea safeandhealthy future.

Tofinishoff another successful year
of Sustainability, sevengirlsand
MsNicoleVolkmannattended the2013
ResourceSmartSustainabilityAwards
(RSSA) inNovember, Ruytonhaving
beennominatedasafinalist in fourof
thefivecategoriesentered.During the
day, thegirls sawandheardmany
uniqueand innovativeactionsand
stories from inspiringyoung students
and school groupsandwerealsogiven
theopportunity todisplayRuyton’s
manyachievements. Ruytonwon the
ResourceSmartWater School of the
Yearaward,whichwasahugeachievementwhenupagainst the tough
competition, dedicationandenthusiasmof somanyother schools.
Winning thisawardandbeingafinalist inanother threecategories
recognises thediligentworkundertakenby thegirlsof thecommittee
whoall contributedgreatly to sustainabilityatRuyton.

TheRuytonSaturdayNetball (RSN)Club
season isunderway for 2014and I am
pleased toannounce somewonderful
new initiatives.
Thisyearwe launched theRSNClub
webpageon theRuyton internetand
will use thisasourmainmeansof
communication. Eachweek the results
andbestplayerswill bepostedon the
website rather thanappearing in the
WednesdayWeekly.
Wehavealso introduceda systemof
registeringonlineusingTeamstuff, aweb
andmobilebasedapplication tomanage
sporting teams.Once the season is
underway theTeamstuff appwill actas
agreatmeans tocommunicatewithin
teamsandbroadlyasawholeclub.
Wearealsomovingour trainingoff-site
toMacleayPark inBalwynonMondays
after School, therebygiving thegirls the
opportunity to train for a longerperiod
of time,withmore spaceandwith the
opportunity to trainasaclub, benefitting
fromclinics runbyeliteplayers
andcoaches.
Wehaveentered22 teamsand registered
210players for thewinter season,
includinganopen team forpast students.
Wehavea terrificnumberofgirls
applying tocoachand I look forward to
helping themdevelop their skillsvia the
new formatof all training togetheron
aMondaynight.Wewill also run training
sessions for them, planplayers’ sessions
togetherandprovideclinicswith
experiencedcoaches.
Wehave introduceda secondhand
uniformprogramme toensure that
dressesare recycledandplayershave
acoupleofpurchaseoptions.
We look forward toaveryenjoyable
andprosperousyearofnetball.
