TheArtDepartment isbuzzingwithnew ideasand
colourful creations! TheArtSociety, created twoyears
ago, isbeginning to teaseout ideasaboutwhere it
wants togo, andhow it’sgoing toget there! Thefinal
goal is themaintenanceofanArtist-in-Residence
programme,whichcan includeall interestedgirls, not
just thosewhoparticipate inArtataSenior level. In the
past theprogrammehascreatedmosaics, but thisyear
theArtSociety is lookingatall sortsofmedia, including
amuralmadeoutofoldCDswhicharepainted. The
currentCo-chairs, JoannaCooksonandGillianLim, are
passionate in theirdrive tobe inclusive, seeking tobuild
theconfidenceofgirlsasyoungasYear 7by their
involvement.
Agreat initiative lastyear, instigatedbyFORART,was the
cardcompetition, to raise funds tosupport theArtist-in-
ResidenceProgramme.Nearly200photoswere
submittedacross thewholeSchool andabout30 images
wereselected toappearoncards. Formore information
pleasecontact theDeanofArt,MsSaraValentinoorMrs
HelenKentandMrsAndreaWintersMileoof FORART.
ThewholeSchoolwasalso invited tosubmitartwork ina
competition foradvertising theSchool Fair. Therewere
numerousentries,whichmade the jobof the judgesvery
hard.All entries receivedwerecolourful andhighly-
entertaining, righton theme for theFair. Apart from the
designswhichweredisplayedonboards in the
community, all girls’ artworkwasdisplayed in theSchool.
AsSouthHousecompletes its redevelopment later this
year intoanewspaceof learning for theYear4s, theArt
Department iscreatinganewproject to include these
girls. Theywill be involved indesigningsculptural forms
invariousmedia, somewooden,whichwill bedisplayed
in thegardensaround thenewYear4classrooms.
