is! The ORA were most generous in their donation
of prizes. For more information about how to get
involved please contact Mrs Susan Thomas on
AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE HERITAGE TRAIL
The ORA Heritage Trail, a walking trail which
encapsulates the history of Ruyton, was officially
opened in November 2012. It is a magnificent
addition to the rich history of Ruyton. We
welcome community members to come and
enjoy the Heritage Trail and to discover (or
re-discover) quirky facts in Ruyton’s past! To book
a place on the tour on Friday 8 November please
contact Mrs Marilyn Rouhard, Development
Co-ordinator, Community, on 03 9290 9335
or email
Dear Ruyton Community,
Since the last
Ruyton Reporter,
the Old Ruytonians’Association
has been eagerly working to unveil the Old Ruytonians’
Heritage Trail, while organising a number of events to connect
the Old Ruytonians and promote the organisation.
On Saturday 24 November 2012, after two years of planning,
the ORA were very proud to launch their first major building
project,The Old Ruytonians’Heritage Trail.The trail was
donated to Ruyton and encapsulates the history of the School
and its buildings, including a variety of signs throughout the
grounds and a booklet with interesting facts and pictures. The
unveiling of the first sign, which represents the beginning of
the trail, was performed by Mrs Doreen Ashley-Brown (’31),
one of our oldest Old Ruytonians. We were honoured to have
Doreen there to mark the occasion and we thank her for her
contribution on the day.We were also fortunate to have
musician, Ms Tash Anderson (’04) provide us with some lovely
music. Mrs Helen Gordon (’52) gave a witty speech about her
time at Ruyton. It was a wonderful occasion, with over 150 in
attendance. The School has now incorporated the Heritage
Trail into the curriculum. There will be another tour on Friday
8
November and if you would like to join us please contact
Mrs Marilyn Rouhard, Development Co-ordinator, Community,
on 9290 9335 or email
Congratulations to everyone involved for making this
such a successful and meaningful project.
At the same time as we were busy with the Heritage Trail, we
also held the annual Year 12 Leavers’Cocktail Party, attended by
the 2011 Alumnae. This evening marks the first official occasion
when the previous year’s alumnae return to the School and is
always an enjoyable evening. Careers’Night, organised by Mrs
Kathy Galt, provides an opportunity for current students and
their parents to hear from Old Ruytonians about their careers.
This is also fantastic opportunity for Old Girls to catch up with
one another. Mrs Galt retired from Ruyton at the end of
February 2013. She has been an inspiration to many students
and Old Ruytonians over the years and we thank her for her
enormous contribution and wish her well in her retirement.
In late 2012 the ORA organised a reunion in Sydney which was
attended by a number of Old Girls from various year levels. The
reunion was held at Centennial Park and it was great to hear
from our Sydney counterparts. The Old Girls’ lunch took place
in October and we thank 2013 School Co- Captains Kashi
Mogensen and Lauren Yip who gave an inspiring presentation
about their time at Ruyton during the lunch.
For 2013 we are planning a Presidents’Lunch and a
presentation for students, parents and Old Girls. Invitations
have been sent out for members to attend a Business Chicks
breakfast on Friday 12 April at a subsidised price. Ms Alisa
Camplin, known to many for her Olympic skiing gold medal,
is the guest speaker. The third edition of our newsletter, the
ORAdvisor, will be published in the coming months and will
include details of more events to be hosted by the ORA.
Please look out for it in your inbox or mailbox!
We would like to thank all members of the ORA committee,
Mrs Marilyn Rouhard, Development Co-ordinator, Community,
Ms Tonya Peters, Director of Development, Ms Linda Douglas,
Principal and all other School representatives who have been
involved in a successful 2012.We also welcome a number of
newmembers to the committee.
On a financial note, the ORA is working towards making
strategies to increase opportunities for current and past
students, as well as contributing to building projects. The ORA
relies on member joining fees and individual contributions.
We thank all those who have donated in the past.
I wish you a safe and happy 2013 and look forward to seeing
you at future functions and reunions.
Kind regards,
Ms Caroline Jarrett,
ORA President
