autumn 2011
Dear Ruyton Community,
The Old Ruytonians Association (ORA) had
a successful year in 2010.
We are excited to announce that we have reached
our goal of providing a bursary for a Ruyton
student, in the form of a half scholarship for
twelve months. A bursary has not been given by
the ORA for over ten years. It is excellent to
be able to contribute to a student’s education
at Ruyton once again.
On the event front, 2010 was a busy year with
a keen focus on strengthening the member base
of the ORA and encouraging participation in our
events. The annual ORA Golf Day, organised by
Susan Thomas,
was another successful social
and sporting event.
Over twenty Old Ruytonians attended the
networking breakfast where
Bernard Salt
his views on population growth in Australia with
the topic,‘Do we need a big Australia?’The ORA
is planning to hold similar networking breakfasts
and luncheons bi-annually. Further information
will be posted and emailed out to members closer
to the dates.
The ORA held the annual Cocktail Party for
the 2009 School Leavers. It is always a highlight
of the ORA calendar. We also held the annual
lunch for 1930, 1940 and 1950 school leavers in
The Royce Theatre. I would like to thank the 2011
School Co-Captains
Tatiana Kotsimbos
Georgina Baker
and to everyone at Ruyton
who helped organise the event and provided
On a celebratory note, a function was held to
congratulate Jennifer (Jennie) Macdonald and
Amanda Blythe on achieving life membership.
We extend our congratulations and look forward
to seeing them at future ORA events.
We are also pleased to welcome a number of
new committee members and liaisons to the
ORA Committee.
Freya Marsden
joins the
committee as an Old Ruytonian, while
Tonya Peters
will work with and
support the ORA as part of the Development
Office at Ruyton. Last but not least, we also would
like to welcome Ruyton’s new principal,
Ms Linda
We look forward to her involvement
with the Old Ruytonians.
In 2011, we plan to organise and unveil the Ruyton
Heritage Trail, a walking tour that will encapsulate
the history of Ruyton. We hope to launch the trail
in Term 4.
As a group funded by donations and membership
fees, the ORA relies solely on these contributions
to organise events and provide a bursary to
contribute to a student’s education.We would like
to emphasise the need for donations and new
memberships. We would also like to thank all of
those who have generously donated to the ORA.
I wish everyone a happy and safe year and look
forward to an event-filled year in 2011.
Kind Regards
Caroline Jarrett,
