Leadership

There are many ways in which to gain leadership experience at Ruyton. Training for leadership occurs at various points in the academic curriculum in units designed to enhance the growth of individual awareness, self esteem and responsibility. Both formal and informal opportunities arise through participation in the co-curricular programme including Sporting Teams, Musical Groups, Dramatic Productions, Debating, Enrichment Programmes and Tournament of the Minds. A girl is a leader when one other person willingly and enthusiastically follows her. At some point all girls will be leaders and therefore, at Ruyton, all girls must understand the responsibility which attaches to her leadership of others.

Leadership in the Junior School

We believe that:

  • all girls have the potential to develop leadership skills over time.
  • all girls have the right to develop and demonstrate leadership skills.
  • a school's student leadership programme will be more substantial if it is supported by the students, parents, teachers, the school and the community.

In accordance with this, our leaders for Semester 1, 2006 will be appointed during the first week of Term 1.
