Teaching

Daily opportunities for sustained play are offered for the children to construct their own learning through play materials, projects and focus topics while supported by caring, passionate, and well informed early learning professionals. The staff as co-learners with the children, provide meaningful interaction and guidance to enhance the play and the learning opportunities.
The day also includes times for focus groups either within small groups or the group as a whole which include a wide range of stories, early phonetic literacy opportunities (letterland), discussions, music and drama.

Appropriate pre prep level, curriculum based experiences cater to the range of development within the young children. - Gross Motor Programme, Perceptual Motor Programmes, French and Library are specialist areas and the teachers of the groups plan weekly for experiences in art, music, early literacy, maths and science.

The programme for the kindergarten children also includes a number of these specialist areas.

Partnership with Parents

Parents at Little Ruyton are welcome to contribute to the programme by sharing their skills, interests and professions in practical ways. The teacher of each group welcomes discussion regarding the progress of the child so as to provide a collaborative approach to the care of the child. There are also regular ways parents may be involved in assisting with perceptual Motor Programme, Library visits, snack times/routines and special event days. Little Ruyton parents also are included in ‘Parents of Ruyton’ functions which contribute to a wonderful sense of community and care.
