On Friday 22 April we attended the All Fired Up conference at Siena College. During the day we learnt about how important it is to eat the right amount of food and how our body uses and obtains the energy from it. It was amazing to see how much energy and sugar different foods have in them. We learnt about this through a series of presentations and activities.
When we arrived the first presentation was made by a sports dietician. She showed us why it is so important to eat a well-balanced diet and made us question how we can improve our daily diet. We learnt about how the energy in carbohydrates is easier for our body to absorb than proteins and fats.
Later in the day we made three-dimensional sculptures with students from other schools, with the focus of the task being related to physical movement. It was great to work with like-minded students from other schools, collaborating and working with various materials and ideas to create our sculpture.
After a short break we had a session with a physical education teacher who taught us about the muscles in the body and the different types of energy our body uses. All these activities were interesting and enjoyable.
Participating in this excursion has broadened our horizons about everything energy-related and the experience was very rewarding and packed with knowledge. It was a great day.
