Having the opportunity to learn about current issues is an important part of the Student Forums, which are run by the Debating and Forum Captain each year. This year Captain Claire S approached the Asylum Resource Centre to engage a speaker who could provide an outline of the process of approval for refugee status in Australia. We were fortunate to secure Ms Bronwyn Duncan who visited Year 11 and 12 students for a lunchtime presentation on Wednesday 18 May. Faced with probing questions from Ruyton girls, and in particular with concern expressed about children in detention centres, Ms Duncan outlined the need for all people to be treated with dignity, respect and compassion. A group of interested students had the opportunity to spend more time with our guest and explore the topic in greater detail. Thank you to Claire S and Mr Zavattiero for providing this valuable opportunity for the girls.
