Many of our students have recently had their work on public display in two different locations around Melbourne. Embroidery and carry bags sewn and printed in Year 9 and 10 Design class are on display at the Zart Art gallery in Box Hill North until 20 September. Over 20 students from Prep to Year 12 will have work on display at No. 1 Spring Street, Melbourne, as part of the Independent Schools Annual Student Art Exhibition. The official opening by the Hon Martin Dixon for this event was on Tuesday 29 July and was well attended by parents and students from many independent schools. This annual exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the creativity and expertise of the students who are involved in the Arts. While all of the work was wonderful to see, there were a number of highlights. Art works completed by Brittany S as part of her 2013 Art folio and the collaborative artwork completed by Mr Paul Brandner’s 2013 Year 7 Art class were quite magnificent and very well received. You are all encouraged to visit this exhibition and will not be disappointed. It will continue to run until 29 August at Shell House, 1 Spring Street Melbourne (entry via Flinders Lane).
Last Friday Year 7 students visited the National Gallery of Victoria to see the Italian Masterpieces on loan from the Prado Museum. This excursion formed part of the Portrait unit that the girls are currently undertaking. Using an iBook, the girls were able to focus on particular works as they moved through the seven rooms of artworks, giving them a more enriching experience. The information gathered will form part of the resources they will use to create their own presentation. The girls were also involved in a digital workshop which introduced them to iMotion, an App that will enable them to create short film clips based on their experiences at the Gallery. All in all, a very enjoyable and stimulating day spent at the NGV!
