The Values Programme (under Curriculum) in the Junior School has the most impact when girls are able to see how the values they adopt make a difference to others. Our girls participate in service learning to demonstrate their care for family, friends, animals, the environment and members of the wider community, for which they seek sponsorship. In the past support has been provided to selected schools in Victoria who have suffered from extreme weather events, such as drought, floods and bushfires.
Girls are involved in a variety of activities to support those in the community who are less fortunate, under the guidance of a Community Awareness Team.
Duke of Edinburgh Programme
Ruyton encourages participation in this programme and has a teacher available to advise and mentor girls wishing to undertake this from Year 9 onwards.
This is an opportunity for girls in Year 11 to participate in a mock United Nations and to display leadership and compassion.
All girls in Years 9-11 participate in community service of their choice. There is also the opportunity to be involved in the Community Awareness Committee, who organise activities throughout the year to support specific charities and causes. Each year level in Senior School has a designated charity to support through fund-raising and service programmes.
