History

Since 1878 Ruyton has been an independent school for girls. Always very self-sufficient, it has survived educational, social, economic and political difficulties that destroyed many schools of the same era. The history of Ruyton is a story shaped by independent women who faced the challenges of their times. Their legacy is reflected in the resourcefulness of our past students. We continue to celebrate our fine traditions, our academic achievements and proud reputation as one of Melbourne's most successful independent girls' schools.
